Geotehnical Investigation

Geotechnical, geomechanical and engineering geological investigations of a site are carried out for purpose of designing and defining conditions for construction of a certain facility. According to the Law on Geological Survey („Official Journal of Montenegro“, no. 28/11), the works must be preceded by preparation of Design of detail geological investigation of site (intended for construction). Then, the Design is subject to revision by 3 licensed geological engineers (Revision Committee). Once the consent is obtained from the competent Ministry of Economy, execution of design works may commence as well as preparation of Study on geomechanical/ geotechnical investigation of the site on the basis of related results, which finally enables the Ministry of Economy to issue its approval on the Study which is one of the prerequisites for issuance of building permit.

D.O.O. “Geoprojekt“ deals with preparation of designs, studies and maps required for design of different structures (commercial – residential buildings, villages, roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, marines, wind power plants, mini hydro power plants, industrial objects, submarine cables, etc.), as well as maps for preparation of spatial and urban plans.

The following research methods are applied within the geotechnical, geomechanical and engineering geological investigations:

Review of available documentation,

• Field reconnaissance,
• Development of Design of Investigative Works,
• Photogeological inspection of field,
• Engineering geological surface mapping,
• Geophysical survey,
• Seismogeological analysis,
• Exploratory drilling along with engineering geological mapping of cores from boreholes,
• Testing of boreholes (standard dynamic penetration, pressuremeter tests, inclinometer measurements, pumping tests),
• Excavation and mapping of trial pits and excavations,
• Testing of trial pits (dynamic penetration, pumping tests),
• In-situ dynamic penetration (DPL, DPM, DPH and DPSH),
• In-situ California bearing ratio CBR,
• In-situ determination of compressibility modulus by method of circular plate (using a drop weight or static loading),
• Installation of inclinometer and inclinometer measuring,
• Sampling from soil and rock (disturbed/undisturbed),
• Laboratory tests on samples (soil/rock),
• Geostatic calculation and stability analysis,
• Data processing and reporting, etc.
